Ingredients

Sourcing locally keeps our ingredients fresh, reduces our carbon footprint, and supports the sustainable agrarian economy in our home state. Visit our product pages to learn more about the farms and ingredients that make each product. At Home Base, we love to spend the extra time finding the highest quality ingredients that are grown with sustainable methods. That way, we always capture the unique and nuanced flavors from each ingredient — from the honeyed biscuit of fresh malted barley to the signature sour of a pomegranate pearl.

Distilling

We’re proud to partner with Bay Area craft distilleries using sustainable practices to produce our premium spirits. We contract our bourbons and whiskies to be mashed, fermented, distilled, and proofed to our specifications before they’re transferred in barrels to our Southwest Berkeley facility.

We also purchase local grape brandies as the base for our liqueurs, and use partners’ aged whiskies for our unique blends (like our Cask Strength Bourbon). Learn more about our farming and distilling partners by clicking here.

Barrels

We select our barrels as carefully as our ingredients. Barrels Unlimited is a family-owned and operated Bay Area cooperage. Originally made for wineries, our barrels come in 30 and 59 gallons - unique to spirit-making. The wood used for each barrel is seasoned a minimum 36 months and charred to our specifications, perfect for aging our bourbons.

We reuse our barrels for other whiskies and aged spirits, and sometimes have some empties available for sale. Contact us if you’re interested!

Time

All of our spirits are made from scratch, so production can take anywhere from five months to over five years. Our aged bourbon and whiskies spend most of their formative years in our Southwest Berkeley home base, enjoying the temperature fluctuations of our Bay Area climate.

Label Artists

Local, bright, and fun—just like our whiskey and spirits.

A spirit’s bottle should speak to its personality, so we commission local artists to help us design each colorful label. We’ve had the pleasure of working with Kate Miss, Lorien Stern, Kindah Khalidy, Chinzalee Sonami, Fernanda Martinez, and Ari Takata-Vasquez through our collaboration and fundraising effort with Oakland Art Murmur.
